New director for Volkswagen passenger cars

Alex Smith has been appointed director of Volkswagen passenger cars and will take up his new post on 1 July 2014.  He is currently director of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles and replaces Robert Hazelwood who is to leave after nine years with the Volkswagen Group.

Jardine Motors Group announce partnership with Whizz-Kidz

Mark Herbert, Jardine Motors Group chief executive, revealed a new mobility vehicle for Whizz-Kidz that allow the children’s charity to deliver wheelchairs throughout the UK.

Zenos Cars launches Project E10 at Autosport International

The former Chief Executive Officer, Ansar Ali and Chief Operating Officer, Mark Edwards of Caterham Cars have introduced a new lightweight sports car into the UK market.  The Project E10 will be the first model for the new company, Zenos Cars, and has been described as fun to drive and affordable.  The car is road legal, has an open top with two seats.  It covers 0-60 in under five seconds with a 200 bhp engine and is on sale from £24,995.  Two further models. Project E11 and E12, are due to be announced in 2018.

Grimshaws Vauxhall to sell to Pentagon Motor Group

Alan Grimshaw, Managing Director of Grimshaws Vauxhall has announced his decision to retire and to sell his business to Pentagon Motor Group for an undisclosed sum.  Pentagon will acquire the Vauxhall sites at Prestwich and Eccles that will take their franchised outlets to 25 in total.

OFT clears Gilder’s acquisition

The Office of Fair Trading (“OFT”) has today cleared the acquisition of Gilder Group Limited by JCT600 Limited.

The OFT was considering whether this purchase had a detrimental impact on competition but has concluded that no lessening of competition has occurred as a result of this deal.

Paul Willcox appointed as new Managing Director for Volkswagen Group UK

Following the recent announcement that Simon Thomas is taking up a new position in Germany with the Volkswagen Group, it has been announced that Paul Willcox will succeed as Managing Director of the UK operation.  Paul Willcox is currently the Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing for Nissan and will be joining the Volkswagen Group in September.

Skoda opens new site in Harlow with Spire Automotive

The Spire Automotive Limited has added Skoda to its Group by opening a new site in Harlow and will trade as Spirit Skoda.  This brings Spire’s Essex representation to 12 sites now representing Volkswagen, Audi, SEAT, BMW, Mini and Peugeot.

ECO friendly facility opened by T H White

T H White has opened a purpose built Fiat Group facility in Hillmead, Swindon.  The multi-million pound site offers Fiat, Alfa Romeo and Abarth together with the Fiat Group’s other brands of Chrysler, Jeep and Fiat Professional commercial vehicles.

The new building has been designed as an environmentally friendly and efficient site that is heated by burning used engine oil drained from vehicles whist being serviced.  Solar panels provide much of the electric power, and recycled rain water is used for cleaning vehicles.

BT Plc cleared to acquire ESPN Global

The Office for Fair Trading has now formally approved the purchase of ESPN Global Limited by British Telecommunications Plc expanding their pay television sports broadcasting capability.

The acquisition was first announced in February with BT agreeing to purchase ESPN’s Ireland and UK TV channels to increase BT’s live sports coverage, including the FA Cup, Scottish Premier League, Uefa Europa League and German Bundesliga matches.

The launch of this new BT Sports TV package is planned for 1 August 2013.

Arrow Automotive to represent Maserati in Cardiff

Arrow Automotive represent the Ford and Hyundai brands across three sites in south Wales.  They are expanding their operation by developing a new facility in Cardiff for the prestige Maserati franchise.
