New director for Volkswagen passenger cars

Alex Smith has been appointed director of Volkswagen passenger cars and will take up his new post on 1 July 2014.  He is currently director of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles and replaces Robert Hazelwood who is to leave after nine years with the Volkswagen Group.

Arnaud Leclerc appointed managing director for Citroen UK

Citroen UK has appointed Arnaud Leclerc as its new managing director.  He joins the UK from Citroen Scandinavia where he was managing director and replaces Linda Jackson who was recently promoted to worldwide head of sales.

April new car registrations rose 8.2% to 176,820 units

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders has published the April new car market figures that show registrations up 8.2% over 2013, with unit sales at 176,820.  This takes the year-to-date volume up to 864,942 an increase of 12.5%.  This strong growth has resulted in a revision to the full year forecast by the SMMT of 6% over 2013 at 2.4 million new car registrations.

CO2 emissions 31.7% down since 1995

The European Environment Agency has published their 2013 average passenger car fleet emissions data.  Their findings report an average of 127g CO2/KM compared to 186g CO2/KM from data published in 1995.

Erik Jonnaert, Secretary General of the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) thanked the European manufacturers for their efforts and significant investment in research and deveopment.

New car registrations rise to 464,824 in March

New vehicle registrations increased in March 2014 by 17.7% over prior year to 464,824 units.  This is the second highest March figure (March 2004 was the highest) since the introduction of the twice yearly plate change.

Consequently the year to date figures have risen by 13.7% to 688,122 units.

Peugeot UK announce appointment of new managing director

Peugeot Motor Company has announced the appointment of Stéphane Le Guevel as their new UK managing director.  He is currently managing director of Peugeot’s China operation and takes up his new position in the UK from April.

Jardine Motors Group announce partnership with Whizz-Kidz

Mark Herbert, Jardine Motors Group chief executive, revealed a new mobility vehicle for Whizz-Kidz that allow the children’s charity to deliver wheelchairs throughout the UK.

Renault UK appoints new Marketing Director

Mihai Bordeanu has been announced as Renault UK’s new Marketing Director following the recent promotion of Phil York and will take up his new post on March 1 when he leaves his current role as Renault Marketing Director in Romania.

BMW appoints new marketing director

BMW UK has announced the appointment of Uwe Dreher as their new marketing director, replacing Chris Brownridge who takes on responsibility for Mini UK.  Mr Dreher was previously head of marketing for BMW i and for its worldwide launch.

Zenos Cars launches Project E10 at Autosport International

The former Chief Executive Officer, Ansar Ali and Chief Operating Officer, Mark Edwards of Caterham Cars have introduced a new lightweight sports car into the UK market.  The Project E10 will be the first model for the new company, Zenos Cars, and has been described as fun to drive and affordable.  The car is road legal, has an open top with two seats.  It covers 0-60 in under five seconds with a 200 bhp engine and is on sale from £24,995.  Two further models. Project E11 and E12, are due to be announced in 2018.
